yellowstone / grand tetons

06 November 2018

I've been tethered to the midwest for my whole life. I've longed to break free and travel, but have always felt stuck. The farthest west I had been was Kansas (which is still considered the midwest apparently). The concepts of deserts, mountains, and dry heat were foreign and unbelievable to me.

So when I got the chance to tag along on a trip to Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons, I didn't know what to expect, but I was excited!

Yellowstone is made up of a patchwork of geysers, mountains, lakes, wide open plains, and hot springs. It's a beautiful combination that is truly mesmerizing to explore.

The moments of the trip that will stick with me are the ones when we just drove through the scenic routes, weaving in between mountains, and watching the herds of bisons that dotted the plains from a distance. Or the times when we followed quiet hiking trails stinking of sulfur that led to waterfalls. Or the time we saw a lonely black bear munching on wild berries, oblivious to the undivided attention we were giving him.

On the last day of our trip, we were able to take a detour to the Grand Tetons, which confirmed that mountains are my new favorite thing.

I really think that God outdid himself when he created mountains. Pictures simply cannot do them justice. The way that they tower over everything with such authority, the empowerment of climbing up the side only to run as fast as you can all the way back down, as if you successfully conquered something unattainable.

I think everyone needs to take the opportunity to go on a hiking trip at least once in their life. To see the raw, unadulterated beauty of God's creation in such an up close and personal way is worth all the walking and sweat and bland trail food.

It's something I'll never get over.

  4. First of all I would like to say awesome blog! I had a quick question in which I'd like to ask if you don't mind.
I was interested to find out how you center yourself and clear
your mind prior to writing. I've had a tough time clearing
my thoughts in getting my thoughts out there.
I truly do enjoy writing however it just seems
like the first 10 to 15 minutes are generally wasted simply
just trying to figure out how to begin.
    Any recommendations or hints? Thanks!
