little things | spring 2018

01 June 2018

This spring has been the least springy spring I have ever experienced. The weather of the midwest had fun teasing us this year, giving us glimpses of warm spring weather before spiraling into fierce second, third, and forth winters. It snowed a foot on Easter and I was not amused. But once it was spring, it came with a vengeance. It's like we skipped spring entirely and went straight for summer.

But, similar to the weather, this spring has been insane!

I had a relaxing, uneventful spring break at home and I got to meet my family's new energetic puppy, Forrest. Spring break and puppy cuddles were exactly what I needed to get through the last few weeks of sophomore year.

I don't know how I did it, but I somehow got half way done with college! This was the most difficult year by far, but I am happy I got through it. I learned so much about myself this past year, and while it was hard, I'm glad I was able to finish.

Along with the milestone of finishing my second year of college, I also celebrated my second decade of living. At the very end of May I turned 20, and yeah I may or may not be having a quarter life crisis. I always expected to have life figured out by the time I was 20. But it's okay. I'm excited to continue to figure it out, and see what the summer holds this year!

I wanted to thank all of you who filled out my survey while I was gone. It was extremely helpful to me while I was on hiatus to read through what you think about my site and what you suggest I change or continue with my blog. For now I have a new (hopefully) consistent post schedule, and a new manifesto page. But new changes are still coming, so watch out!
I don't think this little corner of the web will ever be more than a work in progress, but that's okay! We're always works in progress and I want this blog to reflect my journey of discovering who I am.

One thing I have wanted to start doing are wrap ups of some kind. I love reading monthly wrap up posts by other bloggers, but I didn't think I could do it every month. So I'm starting small with a post at the end of every season to reflect on things that happen and remember the little things that made me happy. So look forward to more posts like this in the future!

Thank you so much for all of your encouragement and support! It means so much!

Myths and Legends Podcast I was in such a mythology kick for some reason and just wanted to consume all things mythology when I happened to stumble upon this super amazing podcast. It's lighthearted and funny and covers myths and legends from many different regions and cultures. I love listening to it while I'm cleaning or right before I go to bed. Highly recommend!

The music video for Happier by Ed Sheeran emotional puppets and balloons and one of my all time favorite artists!

Flowers I don't know if it was just the long winter we had that never seemed to end, but I have grown a huge appreciation for all the late blooms.

The Great American Read I'm obsessed with this show and will be closely following it all summer for sure! I'm still not sure which book I'm going to be loyally promoting and voting for though. I have to wait for the list to narrow down a bit...

We Have Always Lived in the Castle - Shirley Jackson I will definitely be talking about this book in many future posts, but I had to list it because it is an amazing novel. I read it all in a single day (when I should've been writing a research paper probably) and I absolutely loved it! It was dark, mysterious, creepy, and it has stuck with me since I finished it.

Lemon desserts I've been having hard core cravings for lemon desserts, and so for my birthday I had a lemon cake with lemon cream cheese frosting. Now I just want all the lemon desserts all the time!

Decluttering I've been all about spring cleaning and just getting rid of clutter. I've become such a minimalist. It has felt so good going through all the stuff I've accumulated over the past several years and just getting rid of everything I don't need in my life.

  2. Belated happy 20th birthday! And hooray for making it halfway through college. It's crazy how time flies.

I love organizing and getting rid of things. It makes me feel so productive and clean.

I've been enjoying sunshine that is actually warm, my family's four ducklings, reading a lot of books, and planning for my summer. I'm going to Germany for 2 1/2 months (I'm also going to blog about it!) and it'll be the longest I've ever been away from home, so I'm nervous and excited.
